The Health Department of “SYRIZA” welcomes you, wishing to have a productive conference. We hope you will have a good time in Athens enjoying the lovely greek weather and the monuments of the city.

Looking at your topics we realize how ironic they seem to Athenians in a period of health catastrophe due to financial policies.

We regret to inform you that in this country the health status of the population deteriorates every day and health inequities increase in a stable rate.  In this country people lost their jobs, lost their social insurance, lost the access to hospitals and the access to treatments.

It sounds tragic also your topic regarding “improving leadership and participatory governance for health”, as the last decision (3 months ago) of the greek government for health coverage of acute illness for uninsured people is one more proof that in this country memorandum led to a humanistic crisis difficult to manage.... More over solidarity medical and pharmacy structures gave care for over 150000 people in the area of Attica last year.

We declare national debt is not the amount owed by the greek state, national debt and duty is to provide funds in order to reverse the day by day health status of Greeks which is worsening. We remind you that in this country there are cancer patients who can’t have their chemotherapy and radiotherapy, there are children with no proper vaccination. There are people who can’t afford to pay for their pharmaceutical treatment. In addition, preventive measures for population protection from epidemic diseases are neglected from memorandum government leading to the result that after 60 years in this country we have again cases of domestic malaria!!!!!!!!!

We declare that people must be allowed to meet their living expenses before taking care of debt repayments.

Dear Colleagues

You must activate your authority in order to have a real contribution in health improvement of the greek part of European population. Thus spend money to support public health and not in theoretical approaches of “healthy” smoking free cities........In that case you are also welcome as Scientists and Health Professionals not only as visitors.
